Heavy monsoon rains over the last month have caused widespread damage, mostly in the southern province of Sindh Province According to the National Disaster Management Authority at least 5.3 million affected,1.3 millions Lost their homes with 1.7 million acres of arable landinundated. The National Disaster Management Authority has appealed for international humanitarian assistance nearly a month after monsoon rains started devastating parts of Sindh Province. Needs assessments are underway to determine the scale and scope of relief operations. However, needs have been apparent for weeks and food, potable water, shelter, and health care are the most urgently needed to save lives that are greatly at risk to waterborne diseases, malnutrition, and food insecurity. Many inundated areas remain inaccessible thus posing an increased threat to the affected population.Approximately over 5 million people are affected in the province, with more than half of the affected population residing in Khairpur and Badin and thatta districts. Twenty-two out of 23 districts are affected with death toll is approaching 270.
The majority of the population is without access to shelter, food, medicines, and clean drinking water. The pre-flood economic situation of affected communities worsens their chances of meeting their basic needs. Agriculture and livestock provide the majority of income in the province. With these widely destroyed, families are without economic resources and income earning opportunities to purchase food. Inadequate access to health facilities adds to the concerns for waterborne diseases and nutrition deficiency. The current situation also adds to food and drinking water shortages already prevalent in rural Sindh.Read More
Hari camp is located in the district Kotri- Sindh, its village of people who has been released from the captivity of the highly influential land owner who put men and families in their captivity and use them as their slaves for generations with the help of human right & local NGO’s hundred of families has been released and they start living in this village “Hari Camp” population compress of Muslims, Hindus and Christians communities lives together since more then 9 years with out any basic utilities of life i.e. electricity, Gas, Hospital , water , Schools.
We started school in 2008 from 90 students with different age groups & backgrounds especially for the children who never went to school Gawahi Mission distribute books, copies, bags and appoint teachers from surrounded areas. It has been such a joy to see children getting education in this poor and less privileged village, we are keen to extend that school with school building and other basic facilities.
There are many children and women are still waiting to get education (as adult Education) and we are planning to start adult women school and skill development centers in Hari Camp-kotri , Sindh.
“Jhimpir” a small village of Thatta -Sindh (150Km from Karachi) where many communities living together Hindu’s (tribal) Muslims and Christians, their was no school, Dispensary other necessities for children and women infect their was no toilets in this hole village.
Education is at first priority of our organization because we believe that through education we can cut the roots of poverty from the communities because people of Jhampir are very poor so they not able to send their children to school to another village because they not able to pay fees. Gawahi Mission has taken that initiative to start school from a very small scale and resources to change the situation of Jhmapir & surrounding villages through education.
Gawahi Mission High School in Jhampir had 100 students from different backgrounds without any discrimination of religions, We constructed small compound with canes and divided children in to 3 grades provide them Books, bags , chairs, tables, blackboards, and all other things to start the school and appointed three dedicated professional teacher who have heart to change the community through education. Even now there are many children still waiting to get education especially young / adult women who never went to school.
